ORAC, short for Oxygen Radical Absorbance Capacity, is a method of measuring the effectiveness of an antioxidant contained in foods and other substances as a new indicator developed by the researchers in the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) and the National Institute on Aging (NIA). In the U.S., many food products with ORAC values are on the market, which provide consumers with a specific numerical value indicating the food's ability to absorb reactive oxygen (antioxidant capacity). The recommended daily intake of vegetables and fruits for Japanese people, as announced by the Ministry of Health, Labour and Welfare, is 350 grams of vegetables and 200 grams of fruits. When expressed in ORAC values, this amounts to a total of 4,700 ORAC Units/L for both combined. With Nectura, just a little over two spoonfuls are enough to meet the recommended intake.
